Walls of Jericho
These questions are connected to the message, Stuff You Didn’t Hear in Sunday School: Walls of Jericho. You can watch it here.
- What stood out to you from this message? What challenged you, inspired you, or confused you?
- What has this story meant to you (if you’re familiar with it)? Is it an epic battle showing God fighting behind the scenes for his people? Or a source of confusion because of the heinous nature of the supposed command?
- What do you think about the idea that Joshua’s actions might have been influenced by cultural norms rather than a direct divine command?
- What Robyn didn’t include in her sermon was the possibility that this event might not have even happened as recorded. Archaeologically, there is little evidence of such immense destruction. What do you think of this idea? (There’s no wrong answer; this is just an opportunity to discuss or think about an alternative account).
- Where might you be holding tight to a narrative (either with this passage of scripture or another) that doesn’t look like Jesus? Where do you need to turn the gem a little more?
