One Line At A Time: Introduction (Our)
Sometimes, the simplest prayers hold the deepest truths. In this introductory message, Pastor Robyn Elliott introduces us to the series, One Line at a Time, in which we’ll be taking the Lord’s Prayer and breaking it down, one line at a time. Far from a rote ritual, each phrase is packed with meaning and power. Together, we’ll reflect on how each line speaks to our relationship with God, our mission in the world, and our understanding of God’s will. Ready to rethink a prayer you’ve said a thousand times?

- What does prayer look like in your life? (Note: It’s OK to be honest if your prayer life doesn’t look how you’d like it to look).
- What are your greatest struggles with prayer?
- Read the Lord’s Prayer in its entirety. Once. Twice. Maybe three times. Read it silently. Read it out loud. Recite it by memory if you can. Soak in the words. What comes up? What thoughts or feelings do you have?
- Robyn said the Lord’s Prayer is all about the collective. What does it mean to pray for “our” needs and not just “my” needs? How does this shift in perspective affect your sense of community?
- CS Lewis said, “We must lay before God what is in us, not what ought to be in us.” What do you think this means in terms of being honest in prayer, even when we don’t feel “worthy” or “good enough?”
- What does it mean to “dare” to pray a prayer that could “undo” us or transform us? Are there areas in your life where you feel reluctant to let God reshape you through prayer?
