Leaning into Lent: It’s Not About the Money
  -

What does true generosity look like? In this message from Jeff Groenewald, we explore a powerful story from Mark 14, where a woman pours out an entire year’s wages in devotion to Jesus. While others criticize her, Jesus welcomes her generosity, challenging us to examine our own hearts—are we living with an abundance mindset like Jesus or are we holding back?

Discussion Questions:

  1. Have you ever been on the receiving end of great sacrificial generosity – whether in money, time, or care? Or have you ever given sacrificially in a way that truly cost you something? What motivated you to do it or how did it feel to receive it?
  2. Jesus calls out the hidden motives of the people around him. Have you ever caught yourself making excuses to avoid generosity? What were those excuses?
  3. Jeff asked the question, “Am I following Jesus with a ‘just enough’ mindset?” Are there moments where you’ve given ‘just enough’ with your time, your money, and your care? Where might you need to shift your perspective?
  4. What is the Kairos moment God might be inviting you into right now? Is it a time to surrender something? A time to act in boldness or obedience? or a time to trust God with your resources or your future?
  5. What does it mean to you to live a life of recognition and gratefulness? How does that shape your decisions? How might Jesus be inviting you to step into that more fully in your life today?
