There are moments, days even,
When I doubt. There, I said it out loud.
Times when I wonder if all this God-stuff is real.
When I look at life around me –
life across the ocean and across the street –
I wonder if you’re present, if you see and hear.
If prayer matters.
And then I remember those giants and not-so-giants
Peppered throughout the Bible who doubted.
Those who sat in dust and ashes and wrestled,
Who struggled and asked hard questions.
Those who kept going despite the silence and confusion.
And I’m reminded that you welcome questions, and yes,
That you are present with the struggling soul, the wrestling mind.
So here I am, doubts and all, choosing to trust
That you are near.
