Art of the Cross

April 10

Welcome to Art of the Cross 2020.

This would have been the sixth time Lakeside Downtown presented an event which combines the Stations of the Cross with live artistic expression. But due to the circumstances created by the Covid-19 outbreak, this year’s Art of the Cross has moved to an online experience.

The Stations of the Cross, which is found traditionally in Catholic churches, depict the different stages, or steps, taken by Jesus on his journey from the Garden of Gethsemane to the tomb. The Art of the Cross adds, to that spiritual journey, the creation of artistic expressions of the individual stations in a variety of disciplines including: collage, painting, photography, fabric work, etc. Photos from past Art of the Cross events accompany these devotionals to give you the experience of art and word as you meditate on the events of Good Friday.

These devotional readings follow the Lectio Divina (divine reading) style. You are invited to take in the Scripture, meditate on the thoughts of our contributors, respond to the contemplative questions and end your time at that Station in prayer. It’s our hope that through these readings, you will find a deeper spiritual experience this Good Friday.

In our experience, the Art of the Cross is a unique way to experience the events of Good Friday. It’s our prayer that as you take part in this online experience, you will end it with a deeper appreciation of the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross of Calvary.
