Sunday, Feb. 19, 2022 (Faith Despite Religion)

The questions are connected to the message, Faith Despite Religion, from Sunday, Feb. 19, 2023. You can watch it here.
  1. What encouraged you or challenged you about this message?
  2. Read the passage again (Luke 17:11-19). Notice that Luke does not identify these men by their ailment. He doesn’t say “10 lepers,” he says “10 men with leprosy.” Have you ever been identified by the thing that broke you? Have you identified others in this way? Why is it important that we use people-first language?
  3. Discuss the significance of the outsider/foreigner being the only one of the 10 men to rightly discern God in their midst.
  4. Robyn said, “If we’re not made uncomfortable reading the gospels, then we’re not reading the gospels well.” What in this passage makes you uncomfortable?
  5. When God meets us, he meets us as we are, where we are, and as who we are. Where in your life has this been especially good news for you?
  6. These 10 men are united in their suffering. They are united in their healing. But their religious systems bring division. What are the implications of this? Where do we see this in our modern world? How can we be agents of reconciling this?
