Sunday, Feb. 5, 2023 (Slashing Tires (and other forms of vigilante justice))

These questions are connected to the message Slashing Tire (and other forms of vigilante justice), from Sunday, Feb. 5, 2023. You can watch it here.

  1. Read Luke 17:1-4 out loud in a couple of different translations. How have you interpreted these verses and what new insights did you glean from them after hearing this message?
  2. Picture yourself as one of the disciples sitting at the feet of Jesus, hearing these words. How do you feel as future leaders? What responsibility do you feel?
  3. Have you experienced abuse/harm of any kind in the church? If you feel comfortable, share your story with your group or journal through the experience if you are doing these questions by yourself. How was it handled? What was taken from you (your reputation, an opportunity, your emotional security)? And where are you on your forgiveness journey? (If you need to talk further, consider sharing this with one of our pastors who can direct you to other resources).
  4. Read Psalm 3:7. Have you ever prayed in this way or wanted to, and felt that you couldn’t? What is the impact of knowing this kind of a prayer is in our scripture?
  5. Share an experience of a time when you had to go to someone who offended you (sinned against you). How did you feel having to do it? What was their response? How did it impact your relationship? Has there ever been a time when you should have gone to someone but didn’t? What was the result or fall-out from not going?
  6. Read Galatians 2:11-14 where Paul rebukes Peter. Why do you think this is such a vital practice for Jesus?
