Youth Social
November 27 7:00 - 8:30 pm
Lakeside Youth is a fun place for students in Grades 6-12 to experience and build a personal relationship with Jesus. We meet most Wednesday evenings throughout the school year. Scroll down for information about upcoming youth nights, events, and ways to stay in touch.
You hear a lot about “cancel culture” these days. It's what happens when swarms of people on the internet band together to call out, shame, or even "cancel" someone. In this 4-week series, we'll get introduced to a few people from Scripture whose stories show us that humans have always struggled to choose love. This problem isn't a new one, but through the stories of Jesus, a few outcasts, a king, and a shepherd, we'll see that God is challenging us to love people who aren't like us, love people who are in need, love the people we envy, and love the people we don't want to like.
This month we are going to put our teaching into practice and "love those who are in need." We will be introduced to a local organization called "Rachel's Saturday Table," which is a 100% volunteer, grassroots and donation-based program providing hot meals, snacks, drinks, and hygiene products (among many other things) to people in the Guelph community who are experiencing homelessness, food insecurity, and poverty. Their goal is to distribute these essential items in an environment where everyone is loved and respected, regardless of their life circumstances.
Our youth will have a chance to partner with RST in a few different ways, and apply Jesus's teaching in their everyday life.
Plain and simple, we want our young people to:
We want God to be an important part of their lives as they navigate the years ahead. We want them to develop a strong foundation. We want to be the place where they feel loved and accepted and free to ask questions. We want them to experience the love of Jesus and have that love shape the way they live their lives.
We do that through music, games, and small group time. We offer students opportunities to develop their gifts and abilities by serving others whether through music, leadership or organizing special games. And over the course of the year, they get to participate in weekend retreats, large group events, life-altering conferences, and numerous service projects.
We think being part of a regular youth group helps students build their faith, confidence, and connection to others.
