Building Strong Foundations for Youth and Kids

At Lakeside, we believe that faith starts at home, and we’re here to support, equip, and walk alongside families every step of the way.

Family Ministries is all about building strong spiritual foundations for kids and youth, while empowering parents and caregivers to nurture faith in everyday life. Whether your child is just taking their first steps or navigating the teenage years, we want to create a community where they are known, loved, and encouraged to grow in their relationship with Jesus.

From engaging Sunday morning environments for all kids and youthto midweek gatherings and events for teens, our goal is to help every child and student discover the hope, joy, and purpose found in following Jesus.

We know raising kids isn’t always easy, but you’re not alone. We’re here to cheer you on, pray with you, and offer tools that make a difference at home and at church. We invite you to explore all that Lakeside Kids and Lakeside Youth have to offer. Let’s grow in faith together!

What We're Talking About Right Now in Family Ministries

Grades 1-5

This March in Lakeside Kids, we’ll be exploring The Look of Love — a series helping kids understand how God grows His love in us through the fruit of the Spirit. Each week we’ll discover how love shows up in everyday life through joy, peace, patience, and kindness, and how the Holy Spirit shapes our hearts to look more like Jesus.

Through Bible stories, interactive teaching, and meaningful conversations, kids will learn that God’s love isn’t just something we talk about — it’s something we live. As we walk through Galatians 5:22–23 together, our prayer is that children grow in character, compassion, and confidence in God’s presence in their lives.

Bible Verse:
“The Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.”
Galatians 5:22–23 (NLT)

Preschoolers & JK/SK

This month our youngest learners will explore faith through the Cheeky Pandas— playful, story-based lessons designed especially for little hearts and growing imaginations. Through short videos, songs, hands-on activities, and simple conversations, children will begin discovering how God helps us show love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control in everyday life. Each week, the Panda stories help kids learn what it looks like to be a good friend, make kind choices, and trust that Jesus is always with them. Our hope is that children feel safe, known, and excited to learn about God, while beginning to recognize how His love is growing in their hearts.

Monthly Bible Verse:
“The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.”
- Galatians 5:22–23

Youth Grades 6-12

This month in Youth, students will journey through The Look of Love — a series focused on how growing closer to Jesus transforms the way we live, respond, and treat others every day. As youth intentionally draw near to Christ, they’ll explore how the Holy Spirit shapes their attitudes, choices, and relationships, discovering that love is more than a feeling — it’s a way of living that reflects Jesus in real and practical ways.

Together, we’ll unpack the fruit of the Spirit from Galatians 5:22–23, learning that love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, and more are not traits we manufacture, but fruit that grows as we depend on God. Through the teachings of Jesus, reflections on gratitude and peace, and stories from the lives of Job, Ruth, and Naomi — students will wrestle honestly with what it looks like to choose love over hate, joy over discouragement, peace over anger, and patience over worry. Along the way, they’ll be reminded that spiritual growth takes time, intention, and trust, and that the Holy Spirit works in partnership with us through prayer, gratitude, and faithful choices in everyday moments.

Each week highlights a different expression of love, inviting youth to grow in character, compassion, and faith as they learn to put God and others first. Our hope is that by the end of the series, youth won’t just understand the fruit of the Spirit — they’ll begin to recognize how God is shaping their hearts and character, helping them respond with grace, choose peace in difficult moments, and reflect Christ in everyday relationships.

Series Bible Verses:
Galatians 5:22–23 — The Fruit of the Spirit
John 15:9 — Remaining in Jesus’ Love

Conversation Starter for Parents:
This month, try asking: “Which fruit of the Spirit feels hardest for you right now, and where do you see God helping you grow?”

Serving Opportunities

Do you like welcoming families? Are you comfortable with online systems and computers?

You are committed to creating a first impression that is welcoming and friendly for kids and their families, especially first-time guests. By clicking a few buttons, you also help our new families navigate our secure check-in process. This position requires an arrival time of 9:15am on Sunday mornings but with the ability to be in the service after the coffee break.

Are you great at building relationships with kids? Enjoying teaching them about Jesus?

We are looking for great people who want to have fun while investing in the lives of kids from JK to Grade 5. As a Lesson Leader, you are in charge of the room. You lead the provided group lesson for the day, pray with the children, and assist with pick-up. In this position, Lesson Leaders volunteer either in a month on/month off capacity or bi-weekly.

Want to support the Kids program indirectly? Can you be available for 30 minutes after the service?

As part of the Lakeside Kids Tear-Down Crew, you’ll meet in the kids area following the service to help stack chairs, turn off TVs and computers, put away supplies, wipe down tables, and turn off the lights. Volunteers in this role commit to a minimum of once a month.

Are you great at building relationships with a few kids? Enjoy helping out but not leading a room?

In this role, you’ll greet kids as they arrive, assist and support the Lesson Leader, and help with clean-up. Volunteers in this position help out a minimum of once a month.

Do you have a heart for teens?

We believe that a key ingredient in a teen’s faith journey is having consistent adults in their life who lead them to Jesus. We are looking for people with leadership abilities and a heart for teens to help on Wednesday evenings throughout the school year.
