Sunday, Nov. 12 / Advent: Resistance & Reversal

These questions are connected to the message, Advent: Resistance & Reversal from Sunday, Nov. 12. You can watch it here.

  1. What has your experience, if any, been of observing Advent? What has it meant to you? In what ways have you found it helpful in your spiritual pilgrimage?
  2. Barbara Brown Taylor wrote that new life begins in the dark: Whether it’s a seed in the ground, a baby in the womb, or Jesus in the tomb, it starts in the dark. Do you have any experiences where you can see that something in your life was birthed from darkness – either the darkness of waiting, uncertainty, or pain?
  3. Robyn talked about the power of symbol. Is there a symbol in your life that represents God’s presence? Do you have symbols or rituals in your life that represent things of meaning to you?
  4. In our day-to-day lives, how can we be agents of reversal of privilege and resistance to the lure of power? How can we be agents of change?
  5. Share a time in your life when you felt as though you had little to no hope. Who held hope for you? What restored your hope?
